The drive from Amritsar to Wagah Border

The Attari road leaves Amritsar past the Gobindgarh Fort side of the city and runs almost straight to the border, so the drive is short, flat and easy at 45 minutes each way. Leave the city by about 2:30 pm in winter and 3:30 pm in summer, because the ceremony is held at sunset and the seating fills early. On the way you pass Sadda Pind, the Punjabi village-life resort, which works well as a stop on the return leg. The ceremony itself is the reason people come: the Beating Retreat by the BSF and Pakistan Rangers, the flag lowering and the roar of the crowd from two sides of the same gate. October to March is the pleasant season; May and June afternoons are punishing in the open stands. We wait through the ceremony and bring you back the same evening.
