Dalhousie spreads across five hills of deodar forest, and Khajjiar — the meadow everyone calls mini Switzerland — sits 27 km away, so a three-day trip gives you both without rushing. The drive from Amritsar is only 198 km and about four and a half hours, which means you reach town in time for a first evening on the Mall. Day two is the classic loop: Khajjiar and the Khajji Nag temple in the morning, Panchpula and Subhash Baoli in the afternoon, and Kalatop sanctuary if you want a forest walk. Day three, Dainkund peak for the panorama, then the drive back down through Banikhet and Pathankot to Amritsar. May and June are the cool summer months, September and October give the clearest views of the Pir Panjal, and January brings snow to the upper slopes and the chance of a white Khajjiar.
