This is the trip for anyone who wants the two best hill stations near Amritsar in one loop, without repeating the same highway twice. Day one takes you up to Dalhousie, with Ranjit Sagar dam as the breakfast stop. Day two covers Khajjiar, Panchpula and Subhash Baoli, and stays the night up in the deodars. Day three crosses over to Dharamshala through Pathankot — about four hours — leaving the afternoon for McLeodganj, Bhagsunag falls and the Tibetan quarter. Day four is the valley morning, the Kangra Fort or the Masroor temples on the descent, and the drive back to Amritsar by evening. Four days, one car, one driver who stays with you, and a route planned around what you actually want to see rather than a fixed schedule. Hotels at each halt are arranged on request.
